I need your help on something...Dish Network ripped me off and I would like the word to get around.
They were to install the satellite at my new address for a transfer of service on 2/4/2001...they pulled the money out on 1/29/2001...I called and cancelled the installation on 2/3/2001 because there were problems here with the site. They never told me they already billed my account...I didn't find out until I went to the bank on 2/6 and they told me. I called and asked for my money back..they said it would take 2 to 4 weeks for a refund...I told them it didn't take them that long to pull it out...one excuse after the other...
At the end of 6 weeks, I called and was told by someone with an attitude that it is 6 to 8 weeks...each one that I talk to says the other one didn't know what they were talking about...It has been that long, and I still don't have my money back.
Those people grabbed $75 out of my account for installation of the satellite at my new address and I had cancelled the installation ahead of time...They pulled it out a week before the installation was due to be done. Essentially, they drew $75 out of my account and provided no service or equipment for it...taking money under the pretense of providing goods or services and then not providing those goods or services is fraud! If any of you are currently dealing with them and they offer you a discount on anything if you will go on autopay, don't do it! Don't give them your credit card number!

To bring you up to date: I sent Dish Network a copy of my complaint. I
heard absolutely nothing from them. I called last week and asked for a
supervisor. I talked to someone named Ruth. She told me my bank took the
$75 away from them so they turned around and withdrew it from my account
again. I asked her why they did a stupid thing like that and she said
"because you owe us." When I asked her what she thought I owed them for, she
said, "Don't you have the equipment?" I told her not only did I not have the
equipment, that installation was cancelled before it was scheduled to be
done. They should never have taken the money in the first place. She then
said they would send a check directly to me...I asked her when and she said,
"It will take 2 or 3 weeks." When I asked her why it would take that long,
she said, "because that is how long it takes to process it." On February 6,
it was going to take 2-4 weeks and I still don't have it... In 5 more days,
it will be exactly 3 months that they have had my money. I will believe the
check when I see it. If I were not on a fixed income and struggling for
grocery money I would hire an attorney to go after them, but I can't afford
that. I think they should pay penalties and interest, but I don't know that
there is a way to force them to do so.

To Any Person Thinking of Purchasing a Dish Network Dish System, DON'T. . . . I am not a customer of theirs and look what they did to me!
This is what they did to me.
In March of 2000, they deducted, $298.00, $298.00, $200.00, $100.00, $1.00, and $1.00 for a grand total of $898.00 out of my checking account, UNAUTHORIZED. It caused numerous checks to balance. I called the company and asked them why they did this, but they could not talk to me because, I did not have an account with them. Which was exactly my point. Why in the hell would they take out this money, if I did not have an account with them.
I had to report my card stolen, got to my bank several times, and talk to many inept people from Dish Network, who assured me that this would be taken care of. My wonderful bank, issued me a provisional credit, disputed the charges, we won that battle and my money was returned to my account, thanks to my bank, but my bank had to eat several hundreds of dollars in service charges.
Just when I thought this was all over, on 7/28/01, I went to take my daughter out to lunch, when to my surprise, my bank account was negative $577.00, where DISH NETWORK had again. . . . withdrew $802.37 out of my account. I immediately went to the bank, the bank was shocked that this had happened AGAIN. After talking to two people at the bank and doing some research, Dish Network had tried to run the card thru 5 times all five times it was denied because the card was reported stolen. On the 6th time they used a bogus authorization number to remove the money fraudulently out of my account. Now I have been speaking to their attorney Steve Novac at 303-723-1616, who assures me that my bank is at fault, and they are totally innocent in this whole matter, and basically at this point they have taken no action to compensate me for anything. Including another $600.00 or more at this point in service charges that my bank as incurred for me. But in the mean time, my bank is the only ones who have done anything to help me. Dish Network has beat around the bush, and myself and my bank have documentation that Dish Network has agreed in the past to issue my funds back to me. Also another employee of Dish Network, in front of witnesses, agreed to take care of all of the service charges. I also have e mails from yet another Dish Network representative stating that they would mail me a check. I have received nothing from these people but heart burn and total disruption of my finances and life for the last 6 months.
$898.00 may not seem like a lot of money to some, but I am a single mother trying to survive, and it does not help when you have con artists such as Dish Network ripping you off. I don't have a Dish, I don't even have cable!
I would love to sue the pants off of these people, and after doing some research, I may not be alone. I have been doing some research, the Better Business Bureau, does not have a favorable rating for Dish Network for reasons of. . . Guess. . . . "Billing Issues and Refunds???" go figure. Also there is a web site called ScrewedCentral.com where people can vent their complaints. . .Dish has a few listed there also, and these people leave their e mail addresses so you can contact them regarding their experiences.
Let's band together. If you have had a bad experience with Dish Network and would like to start a class action suite. . . Please send me your name, address, and phone number. I will contact you and we will chat!

Z||000005||sappho430||08-18-2001||08:30 PM||sappho430@aol.com||Although Dish told me they withdrew the funds a second time, my bank stopped the transfer. I have been scouting out a lot of consumer complaint sites and Dish Network is on all of them. And guess what? The complaints are very similar.
I posted a notice on another site for anyone interested in joining a class action against this company to please contact me. I had one idiot (Knipscheer37@aol.com) IM me and say that he wanted to sue the rude customers who didn't pay their bills. He represented himself as a former employee of Dish and made a point of saying that Dish had made a profit (they certainly should have!) and that all the complaints against Dish were bogus.
I at first tried to explain to him why people were so pissed and he didn't want to hear it, so I closed the message screen. He bugged me twice more, accusing me of being like the rest of the consumers who complained and running when I heard the truth. I reopened the screen and told him he didn't know the truth when he heard it and I was not running, I was ignoring him. I told him I had a life and I had better things to do than to waste time on a jerk like him who wanted to play headgames and I blocked him. The only thing he said that I really believed was that he was a Dish employee and that Dish turned a profit. He is representative of some of the "customer service" reps I ran into while trying to deal with this company.

Dish definitely knows they are in trouble...their attorney is lying to
banks...he didn't know the customer was on the line, too...these people know
they are guilty...it is my hope that nobody settles on this thing...that is
what Dish wants people to do...they don't want a class action, and that is

Our attorney is talking to his partners...if you have contact with anyone who
has talked to an attorney, please try to get the attorney's name and
location so we can give it to the attorney we have been talking to...this
would help to coordinate efforts as he could check to see if someone has
already officially filed a class action...the attorney we have been talking
to is Steve Felson (stevef8953@aol.com)...also, please forward anything in
the way of e-mail you get to him...this gives him more to work on his
partners with.
